“Love is in the air. Wrong. Nitrogen, Argon and Carbon Dioxide are in the air.”

Sheldon Cooper tells it like it is. Ah Valentine’s day, the Justin Beiber of commercial holidays. To me, Valentine’s day doesn’t mean a time spent with the person of my dreams looking lovingly into each other’s eyes over a candlelight dinner. It means being plagued by tiny white teddy bears holding hearts in Sainsbury’s and being unable to find a table in any restaurant that doesn’t have a couple themed menu.

Last year I spent Valentine’s day with my flatmate. We put face masks on, bought the M&S Dine in for £10 deal and we watched the Sex and The City Movie. It was probably one of the best Valentine’s days I’ve ever had. Who needs a relationship when you’ve got Carrie Bradshaw? It’s the 21st century ladies, we don’t need no man. Pour yourself a large glass of merlot and burn the bra!

Ok, maybe a little extreme, but for those of you sitting in having a Chinese with the girls, here’s a pick of some pamper products I like to use for a girly evening. You may not meet Mr Big the next day but at least your skin will look intensely hydrated and pores unclogged…

Nip+Fab Dragons Blood Fix Mask – £15.49

I adore this moisturising mask. It’s an intensely hydrating, lightweight, gel mask that can be left on all night or for a few minutes/hours then wiped off. The gel formula makes it perfect for all skin types. Oily girls tend to steer clear of moisture masks as their skin is virtually dripping the next day but you control how long this mask stays on for so if you feel your skin can’t handle it, just rinse it off. You’ll still feel the benefits. If your skin is dehydrated leave it on longer and you’ll wake up with silky smooth and healthy-looking skin.

Clinique Pore Refining Solutions Charcoal Mask – £24

I love to use this mask if I feel my skin needs a good clearing. The charcoal draws out all the impurities to clean the pores so when you rinse it off, your skin feels fresh and smooth. This mask absorbs excess oil and pollutants which is why I love to use it when my skin is broken out. It draws out excess oil and helps reduce breakouts in my experience. You can apply this all over the face or concentrate it on your target areas, leave it on for around 10 minutes then rinse it off. Afterwards your skin is visibly clearer and smoother.

Koelf Gold Royal Jelly Hydro Gel Eye Patch – £8.30

I am a huge fan of hydrating eye patches. Nothing is more satisfying that when you’ve had a long, tiring day and you slip on an eye patch and chill out. I love the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair eye patches but £36 for only two pairs meant they were a rare luxury that Santa would bring at Christmas. A friend recommended these Korean branded masks to me (hey Brennan) and considering they’re a sweet 80% cheaper than Estée Lauder’s, they were worth a try. The patches are a gel/silicon like material and are lathered in the serum. They almost seem too heavy to stick to the skin but these babies grab on tight. You will feel an instant chilling that will take your breath away and you can almost feel your shoulders relaxing a little after putting them on. The hydration and cooling they provide will blast away any tired puffiness that could be hanging round your eyes but ultimately, they feel extremely relaxing and enjoyable to wear. Whack them on and chill outtt.

As Carrie Bradshaw so eloquently put it: ‘The most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous.’ So put the face mask on, drink the wine, laugh with the girls, Mr. Big can wait for now.

Happy V Day my vixens,

Eve
