I Need the Dolla

Don’t we all? I’ve always been told I have champagne taste on a lemonade budget. I love luxury brands, especially when it comes to beauty and skincare. When I was younger I never slummed it, but I also worked for a major beauty brand and got that sweet, sweet employee discount…

As I’ve gotten older I’ve been forced to actually fend for myself, spending money on adult things like washing powder and rent. This means that on occasion I can’t afford that new Charlotte Tilbury lipstick (although I have been known to live on toast near the end of the month because I bought a Marc Jacobs foundation that I needed in my life). As a result, I’ve looked more and more to “drugstore” products. I feel the drugstore scene has really upped its game over recent years. A lot of cheaper brands are slaying it, giving some of my high-end brands a run for their money.

There are many, staple, cheaper products that I buy again and again, even if I can afford the expensive version because they’re so darn good. I created this entire look using purely drugstore products, proving that even though you may be a broke ass b*tch, you certainly don’t need to look like one.

Primer – NYX Studio Perfect Photo-Loving Primer £10.50

If you’ve been reading my previous posts you’ll know that I adore this primer, it’s just as good as the Smashbox one and keeps your foundation on all day. NYX do a great range of primers so you’re bound to find one you love.

Foundation – L’Oréal Infalliable 24H-Matte £8.99

This foundation is incredible, the coverage is insane and it stays put all day long. For a long time, the drugstore scene lacked in the full coverage department. For us girls that needed something a bit more heavy-duty or you know, you were over the age of 13, you had to look to one of the beauty counters instead of the self-selection aisle. A lot of affordable brands are bringing out longer lasting, fuller coverage foundations and this is one of the best out there. It feels lightweight and doesn’t look cakey. The squeezy tube also means you get every last drop out of it so it’s value for money.

Concealer – Maybelline’s The Eraser Eye £8.99

Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ll have seen bloggers raving about this concealer. It hides all sins so if dark circles are a real issue then this is for you. This concealer is also good for hiding blemishes because it isn’t too thick or drying so it doubles up nicely.

Contour – Topshop’s Bronzer in Mohawk £9

There are no words for how much I love this bronzer. I’ve been using it for years and never considered using anything else. I can’t use shimmery bronzers for contouring because I have a lot of old acne scars and the shimmer attracts the light to them. This colour is perfect for lighter skin tones and it blends like a dream. My only issue is I can’t get it anywhere! It seems to have vanished from stores. Why Topshop, WHY?! If ANYONE locates this bronzer buy me 5 and I will pay you. I’m desperate.

Highlight/Blush – NYX Strobe of Genius Illuminating Palette £16

These highlighters are AMAZING. They are so well pigmented and glide on the skin. I like this palette because everyone can use all the colours, whether as highlights or eyeshadow etc. The darkest of the larger pans is too dark as a highlight for me but perfect as a warm blush.

Eyeshadow – Makeup Revolution’s Reloaded Iconic Vitality Palette £4

I’ll admit, one product I never EVER sacrificed on was eyeshadow. I always firmly believed that drugstore pigments could never compare to high end shadows so didn’t waste my money. Ho-ly sh*t my attitude has changed. Makeup Revolution seems to have exploded recently with insane products and this is one of them. This is a fabulous dupe for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette and the pigments are incredible. I’ve been searching high and low for this shade of berry pink shadow and it was sitting in Superdrug for a sweet 4 squiddles.

Mascara – L’Oréal Volume Million Lashes Feline £10.99

Honestly, I have given up paying for high-end mascaras. They always leave grey smudge under my eyes and do not last the day. There are so many amazing drugstore mascaras but this is by far one of my favourites. I wear it every single day. Buy it, trust me. I will say no more.

Brows – Soap & Glory Brow Archery £8.50

Brows, like mascara are another thing the drugstores do well. This brow pencil is one of my favourites and you get so much product for how cheap this is. Soap & Glory is an underrated makeup brand in my opinion, check it out.

Lipstick – NYX Lip Lingerie in Bedtime Flirt

NYX’s lip products are sensational. They feel light and buttery but last throughout the day and the colour range is incredible. This is an almost perfect dupe for the Kylie Jenner Lipkit in Candy K and being truthful, I prefer it slightly as it’s a little thinner so doesn’t crumple as the day progresses. I have this range in almost every colour, I feel like I buy one every time I walk into Boots. What am I saying? I do buy one every time I walk into Boots.

There’s no doubt about it, I don’t think my love for luxury will fade away any time soon but I will give credit to the drugstore brands. You can still have fabulous makeup on a limited budget. Never let your bank balance affect your ability to slay the game. At the end of the day, no one needs to know your entire face cost as much as Dominos pizza, fake it to you make it gals.

Peace out,
